Not Sure Which to Pick?

Find the Right Charter

Answer one question: who's going and what matters most? Here's the honest captain's recommendation for every situation.

👪
Kids or first-timers in the group

Inshore half-day, every time. Calm water, no sea sickness risk, constant action, patient captains. Kids catch fish within the first 20 minutes on a good inshore morning.

→ Half Day Inshore or Family Charter
🏉
Experienced anglers after the big fish

Full day offshore to the Gulf Stream. If you're here November through March, there's no reason to go anywhere but offshore for sailfish. Book early — these dates fill fast.

→ Full Day Offshore or Sailfish Charter
📅
Planning around a specific species

Sailfish: November–March offshore. Tarpon: April–June inshore. Mahi-Mahi: April–August offshore. Snook: year-round inshore. Check the species calendar for your dates.

→ Match your species to the season
💰
Budget-conscious but want quality

Half day inshore gives you the best action-per-dollar ratio in Jupiter. September and October are shoulder season with lower rates and less competition for dates. Still great fishing.

→ Half Day Inshore or Sept–Oct booking
Want the bucket-list experience

Overnight swordfish or January sailfish. Two completely different experiences — both are once-in-a-lifetime for most anglers. If budget allows, the overnight offshore is something you'll talk about for years.

→ Overnight Offshore or Peak Sailfish Season
🌃
Never been on a charter before

Start inshore. You'll catch fish, learn the basics from the captain, and figure out if you want to go offshore next time without worrying about sea sickness or the intensity of a full offshore day.

→ Half Day Inshore — then upgrade

Before You Book

Booking FAQ

Do I need a fishing license?
No. Your captain's charter license covers all passengers aboard a licensed charter vessel. You do not need a personal Florida saltwater fishing license.
What is Viator's cancellation policy?
Most Jupiter fishing charters on Viator offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the trip. Check the specific listing for terms. Weather cancellations are typically rescheduled at no charge.
What's included in the charter price?
Rods, reels, tackle, live bait, and the captain's license coverage are all included. Fish cleaning and bagging is typically included or available for a small fee. Food, drinks, and tip are not included.
How far in advance should I book?
For sailfish season (November–March), book 3–4 months in advance. For summer mahi and inshore trips, 2–4 weeks is usually sufficient, though weekends in season book up fast.
What should I bring on a charter?
Sunscreen (SPF 50+, reef-safe — apply before boarding), polarized sunglasses, a hat, light layers, sea sickness medication if going offshore (take the night before), water and snacks, and cash for the tip.
Can I keep the fish I catch?
Yes, within legal limits. Sailfish and tarpon are catch-and-release. Mahi-mahi, wahoo, tuna, snapper, flounder, and most other species can be kept. Your captain will fillet your catch at the dock.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Your captain makes the final call on weather safety. Most captains will reschedule rather than cancel outright for weather. Viator's policy and the captain's policy will be communicated at booking and before the trip.
How much should I tip?
15–20% of the charter price, in cash, split between the captain and mate. Bring cash — most boats prefer it for tips. A good trip with a great catch warrants 20%.
